La Befana & Italian Holiday Magick

We invite you on a journey w/ Tania L. Yager, Artist and Author of the book ‘The Allure of Dark Winter Spirits’ into the enchanting world of La Befana, the beloved Italian Christmas Witch whose folklore has been passed through generations for centuries. More than a seasonal figure, La Befana represents wisdom, household magic, ancestral traditions, and the enduring spirit of winter celebrations.

In this immersive lecture and hands-on workshop, participants will explore the history, mythology, regional traditions, and magical symbolism surrounding Italy’s most cherished winter folk figure. Drawing from historical folklore, folk magic practices, and seasonal customs, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of La Befana’s role within Italian cultural heritage and contemporary magical traditions.

Following the lecture and discussion, participants will create their own miniature Befana-inspired besom  (broom) to take home as a charm of cleansing, protection, blessing, and seasonal renewal. This experience combines education, folklore, creativity, and practical magic in a welcoming and accessible format suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners.
